Rockford College Selected to Host USA Track & Field Level 1 Education Course

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College has been selected to host a Level 1 Course, which is designed to be a starting point for coaches.  The course is set up to educate coaches on the very basics of coaching and instructing their student-athletes.  The topics that are covered include: fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management, and instruction techniques.  The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals to coach at the junior high, high school, club and junior age level.  Upon completion of the course, passing of the exam and fulfilling all the requirements, the individual will receive recognition as a USATF Level 1 Coach.  

Currently Rockford College is the only institution in Illinois that has been selected to host a Level 1 Course.  The class costs $125.00 for preregistration or $150.00 if you register at the door.  The cost covers twenty-one and a half hours of instruction which takes place over a two and a half day period.  Individuals will receive both classroom instruction as well as hands on training.  

Courses will be taught by Andrew Allden, Larry Judge, Mike Cunningham, Mike Erbe.  Allden has 18 years of Division I coaching experience and is Level 1 and 2 Endurance Instructor.  Judge also has 18 years of Division I coaching experience and is currently the USATF National Chairman for Coaching Education in throwing events.  Cunningham has 10 years of coaching experience and has earned his Level 2 certificates in sprints/hurdles/relays, jumps and combined events.  Erbe is currently an assistant coach at the University of Illinois and will be the jump instructor at the Rockford College Level 1 School.
