New agreement between Rockford College and Sweden’s University of Skövde announced

Rockford, Ill. — On Wednesday, April 11, at 9:00 a.m., representatives from Rockford College and the University of Skövde (pronounced "Hov-de”), Skövde, Sweden, met to sign a new agreement of cooperation between the two institutions. While located on separate continents and with a seven hour time difference, Rockford College President Dr. Robert L. Head and Dr. Sigbritt Karlsson, Vice Chancellor of the University of Skövde, simultaneously signed the new agreement during a live video conference. Also present for the signing were John Groh, president and CEO of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and director of the Rockford Sister Cities Commission; Dr. Rudy Valdez, Education Liaison for Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey, and Carrie Zethmayr, Rockford Area Development Council’s manager of international trade.

Dr. Head signs Skovde agreementThis new agreement promotes the exchange of students and staff from both institutions, further enhancing opportunities for Rockford College students and faculty to study internationally, while also welcoming students from Skövde to Rockford.

The two universities will seek to promote an exchange of information and material that are of mutual interest; student and staff exchanges between the two universities; joint research between academic staff and other forms of cooperation which the two institutions may jointly arrange.

President Head notes, "Rockford College has a strategic goal to increase its international student population to 100 students by the fall of 2014. This agreement with the University of Sköve furthers our ability to reach that goal while also providing additional options for our students to enrich their educational experience and study abroad. A diverse international student population is an increasingly important part of our mission to prepare students for success in our changing global society. We are excited about this agreement and look forward to welcoming students from Sweden to Rockford as early as this coming fall semester.”
