ROCKFORD, Ill. – Senior Jake Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) was named to the D3baseball.com team of the week for the week of April 2-8, 2012.  The team is comprised of players from Division III institutions all across the country.  This is the sixth team selected so far this season with Nicholson being chosen as one of three starting pitchers named to the weekly team along with eight position players, a designated hitter and a relief pitcher.

Nicholson has been absolutely lights out in his last three starts since the team returned from its spring trip. The senior has gone 3-0 throwing 3 complete games, recording 20 strikeouts, and posting an ERA of 0.78.  He has been a large part of the team’s recent turnaround.  The Regents have gone 9-3 over their past 12 games including going 2-0 this past week.  Rockford is currently second in the Northern Athletics Conference with a 6-2 record.

It was Nicholson’s start last Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin that earned him a spot on the D3baseball.com team of the week.  Nicholson was nearly unhittable going 8.2 innings before surrendering his only hit of the game.  After giving up the single, he would induce a fly out to retire the final batter of the game.  Nicholson struck out a season-high 9 batters in route to a one-hit complete game shutout.

The senior is currently 3-1 tying him for ninth in the NAC in wins and also is tied for third in the NAC with 29 strikeouts.  The Regents will return to Northern Athletics Conference play on Saturday, April 14th when they go on the road to face Aurora University.  Game one is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
