Track Breaks more Records at Rex Foster Open

WHITEWATER, Wis. – For the second consecutive week the Regents outdoor track team assaulted the Rockford College record books. The team saw four records fall at the Rex Foster Open at UW-Whitewater last weekend. Records fell on both the men’s and women’s side with the men setting 3 new records and the women setting 1 new record.
It was sophomore Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) on the men’s side who dazzled with his performance. Arnold set new school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. In the 100 meter Arnold broke his own record in the preliminaries with a time of 11.18 seconds and qualified for the finals where he would finish 7th. The sophomore followed up that performance finishing 7th in the 200 meter and again broke his own record with a time of 23.24 seconds. His most impressive performance may have come in the 400 meter dash where he would again finish 7th, but this time broke the school record by over a second and a half with a time 50.45 seconds.
Other runners also had good showings at the Open as well. Freshmen Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) and Jason Springman (East Alton, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) finished just 0.06 seconds apart in the in the 800 meter run to finish 12th and 13th with times of 2:03.83 and 2:03.89 respectively. Rapp also competed in the 200 meter dash were he placed 23rd recording a time of 24.87 seconds.
It was junior Dani Buttel (Pecatonica, Ill./Pecatonica) who broke the school record for the women’s team. Buttel broke her own record she set last spring in the 100 meter dash. The junior posted a qualifying time of 13.11 seconds to brake the record and qualify for the finals where she would finish 7th with a time of 13.49 seconds. Buttel also participated in the 200 meter dash and long jump event. In the 200 meter she finished 14th with a time of 28.61 seconds, and in the long jump she finished 5th with her longest jump covering a distance of 4.99 meters.
Another runner on the women’s side with a strong performance was sophomore Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown). Individually Duffy ran in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter dash placing in the top 20 in all three. In the 100 meter she finished 19th with a time of 13.90 seconds. The sophomore moved up two spots with a 17th place finish in the 200 meter posting a time of 28.91 seconds. However, her best performance came in the 400 meter where she finished 4th completing the event in 1:04.77.
The outdoor track teams will return to competition on Saturday, April 14th at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Relays in Milwaukee, Wis. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
