CHARLESTON, Ill. – The outdoor track and field team began its 2012 season with a trip to Eastern Illinois University to compete in the Big Blue Classic. The meet consisted of primarily NCAA Division I schools and would provide a good early season gauge to see where the Regents are at for the upcoming season.
On the men’s side is was sophomore Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) who stole the show on Saturday. Arnold set new Rockford College records in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. His time of 11.45 seconds in the 100 meter dash broke the previous school record by 0.01 seconds and placed him 28th in the event. The sophomore’s time of 23.29 in the 200 meter was 0.80 seconds faster then the previous school best set in 2007 and was also good enough for a 28th place finish. Freshmen Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) and Jason Springman (East Alton, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) both had strong performances in the 800 meter event finishing 30th and 34th respectively.
