Steven F. Siconolfi, Ph.D., FACSM Named Vice President of Academic Affairs at Rockford College

Rockford, Ill., – Rockford College President Robert L. Head, Ph.D., announces the appointment of Steven F. Siconolfi, Ph.D., FACSM (Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine) as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. Dr. Siconolfi will begin his duties at the College on June 1, 2012 and replaces retiring Executive Vice President Stephanie Quinn, Ph.D. Dr. Quinn has served as the head academic affairs officer and dean of the College since 2003.

Siconolfi_Steven FDr. Siconolfi served for 14 years in academic administration at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., four years as a faculty instructor, nine years as senior scientist/administrator at NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, and four years as a NIH (National Institutes of Health) researcher studying community health. While at NASA, he developed two United States patents and one Space Act Agreement. His focus at NASA was on keeping the astronauts healthy and fit for the rigors of space travel. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and his master’s and doctorate degrees in Exercise Physiology.

Dr. Siconolfi helped create new curricular programs at the undergraduate, graduate and professional level while at Ithaca College. He is also credited with creating an academic fiscal productivity measure and a literacy-based general education program that integrated the liberal arts with professional programs. He achieved preeminence for the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance by successfully branding the school as one that excelled in experiential learning and increasing enrollments by 20 and 133 percent for undergraduate and graduate students respectively.

President Head notes, "Steve brings a strong sense of purpose and proven leadership to his work. Throughout his campus visit and interviews with members of the College community, his passion for education and the vision he has for students to excel in a curriculum grounded in the liberal arts was wholly evident. I am confident his perspective and expertise are attributes that will benefit not only Rockford College and its students, but our community as well.”

Dr. Siconolfi has served on numerous national, community and professional boards and added his leadership to these organizations by co-chairing the national task force on branding Allied Health for the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, as President of the Middle States regional chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine, and as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Central New York Area Health Education Center.

I also look forward to continuing to actively teach in the classroom, as I have almost every year of my professional career.”

Dr. Siconolfi and his wife Linda, a Registered Nurse, are in the process of relocating to Rockford from New York. They have one married daughter and four grandchildren.
