“Top Secret Rosies: The Female Computers of World War II” screening and discussion

Rockford, Ill., – LeAnn Erickson, Associate Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, will give a presentation entitled, "Top Secret Rosies,” on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 7 p.m. in Maddox Theatre located in the Clark Arts Center, Rockford College, 5050 East State Street, Rockford.
Erickson has been an independent video/filmmaker for over 20 years. Her work includes the feature length historical documentary "Top Secret Rosies: The Female Computers of World War II” which she will discuss following a screening of the film. This presentation will explain how, in 1942, when computers were human and women were underestimated, a group of female mathematicians helped win World War II and usher in the modern computer age.
Erickson's work has appeared on public television, in galleries and has won national recognition in video/film festivals. Her animation work is screened internationally at venues including the International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen, the Auburn International Film Festival in Sydney and the 11th Feminale in Cologne, Germany. She was awarded the 2003 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship for Media Arts.
