Regents Hoops Nabs Four NAC Postseason Awards

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Northern Athletics Conference postseason awards were released on Tuesday with four Regents being recognized by the coaches in the NAC for their outstanding achievements this past season.  Senior Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) headlines the group for the Regents.  Curry received 1st team All-NAC honors for the first time in her career.  Junior forward Danny Fair (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) earned 2nd team All-NAC in his first year in a Regent uniform.  Senior Nicole Olson (Shannon, Ill./Eastland) and junior Taylor Dixon (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) were each named to the Northern Athletics Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Curry had probably the best year of her 4-year career in a Regents uniform this past season.  She got off to a fast start this past season by being named the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week the very first week of competition.  Later in the season, the senior would get her second NAC weekly award becoming one of only three women’s basketball players to earn multiple weekly awards this season.  Curry finished off her career in the top 10 in Rockford College history in every major statistical category.  The senior is 3rd in points (1,584), 5th in rebounds (670), 10th in assists (221), 3rd in steals (227), 4th in blocks (73), 2nd in field goals made (587), tied for 8th in three-point field goals made (33) and 3rd in free throws made (377).  This season Curry became the third women’s basketball player in school history to score 1,500 points, the 7th player with 600 rebounds and the only women’s basketball player in Rockford College history with 1,500 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists.  The senior led the Northern Athletics Conference and was 24th in all of Division III in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game.  Curry was also fifth in the NAC in rebounding with 8.6 per game, 7th in steals with 2.1 per game and 6th in blocks with 1.4 per game.  This marks the 4th year that Curry has received postseason recognition from the NAC.    

Fair made an immediate impact on the men’s basketball with his arrival this season.  The junior led the Regents in scoring and was 15th in the Northern Athletics Conference with 356 points.  Fair also led Rockford in rebounding and was 5th in the NAC averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.  In addition the junior recorded a team-high 10 blocked shots.  Fair was very dependable all season for the Regents making nearly 50% of his field goal attempts this year (143-288) and recording a team-high 6 double-doubles.  His best performance came in the final conference game of the year when the junior single-handedly took the game over scoring 30 of the team’s 59 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Olson finished up her career 5th all-time in Regents history with 75 made three-point baskets.  Her 37 three-point field goals this season placed her 9th in the Northern Athletics Conference.  In her two years in a Regents uniform, Olson scored 368 points, got 166 rebounds, recorded 51 assists and had 32 steals.  

Dixon saw a major increase in playing time during his junior season after being primarily a role player his first two years in a Regent uniform.  The junior started all 26 games for the Regents this season averaging 22.9 minutes per game.  Dixon finished the season scoring 86 points with 75 rebounds, 35 assists and 16 steals.
