Men's and Women's Indoor Track Place 8th at NAC Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. – The 2012 Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships were hosted by Rockford College at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on the campus of Carthage College this past Saturday. The men’s team for the Regents finished in 8th place overall scoring 9 points. The women’s team also finished in 8th place but scored 17 points. The 17 points scored by the women’s team was the most points that they have ever recorded at the NAC Indoor Track Championships.
The women’s team scored their 17 total points in 4 different events. Sophomore Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) had an excellent showing for the Regents. Cerrato finished 6th in the women’s 3000 meter run with a time of 11:34.55 and 2nd in the 5000 meter race with a time of 19:20.93. Her time in the 5k broke her own school record she established a few weeks prior by over 8 seconds. Freshman Stephanie Tassone (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) finished fifth place in the women’s triple jump with a distance of 9.66 meters. The women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Stephanie Tassone, Lindsay Maas (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep), Ashley Eggert (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and Genesis Cerrato, finished 7th by posting a time of 4:53.67 which just missed breaking the school record by .27 seconds.
The men’s team was able to score points in the 55 meter dash, the 4x400 meter relay, the 1 mile race and the distance medley relay. Sophomore Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) earned a 5th place finish in the finals of the 55 meter dash finishing with a time of 6.73 seconds. Arnold’s time broke the school record set on February 13th 2010 by Jerry Lewis by 0.11 seconds. The sophomore also placed 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.64 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team of Amour Muro (Das es Salaam, Tanzania/Waterford), Ryan Mehren (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson), Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) and Jacob Arnold finished 6th with a time of 3:39.80 and set the school record. The group broke the previous record by 0.16 seconds. Freshman Carl Rapp also competed in the in the 1 mile race finishing in 8th place with a time of 4:38.38. The distance medley relay team of Mladin Ubiparipovic (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem), Ryan Mehren, Sam Medina-Conchi (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Regan) and Jason Springman (East Alton, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) finished 8th with a time of 13:06.69.
The indoor track teams will compete this Friday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
