LISLE, Ill. – The men’s basketball team took the court on Saturday afternoon with a chance to clinch a spot in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.  Rockford knew it would be a difficult task to win at Benedictine University as the Eagles have not lost a conference home game all season.  The Regents got off to a good start building a 5-point lead with 12:51 left in the first half due in large part to the early hot shooting of juniors Grant Olsen (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) and Danny Fair (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park).  Olson was able to connect on two early baskets including a long 3-pointer.  Fair made three quick jumpers and a free throw to score 7 points less than 8 minutes into the game.  The last 12:51 seconds of the first half would belong to Benedictine University as they outscored Rockford 30-11 to take a 43-29 lead into the half.  The second half would not get any better for the Regents as they were never able to get consist play on both ends of the floor to threaten the Eagle lead losing 80-69.  Despite the loss Rockford was able to clinch a berth in the NAC Tournament because of an MSOE loss.

The Regents did have some solid individual performances in Saturday’s game.  Senior Dominique Walker (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) had a game-high 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot.  Junior forward Danny Fair finished with 17 points, got 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and blocked 2 shots.  Senior Darryl Watkins (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) had a great performance off the bench.  Watkins tallied 11 points with 3 rebound s and 4 assists.  The biggest discrepancy in the game came at the free throw line where Benedictine attempted 31 free throws to Rockford’s 17.

The men’s basketball team will return home on Tuesday, February 14th at 7:00 p.m. against Concordia University Chicago to try and can win their first NAC South Division crown with a win over the Cougars.  All fans are encouraged to show their support and wear black to the game on Tuesday to create a "black out”.
