LISLE, Ill. – With the final spot in the Northern Athletics Tournament still up for grabs, the Rockford College women’s basketball team took to the court Saturday afternoon trying to get within one game of the Benedictine University Eagles. It was a very tough start for the Regents was they could not get anything going offensively for much of the first half. Rockford found itself down 21-6 to Benedictine with 9 minutes remaining in the first half. The Regents were able to find some rhythm on the offensive side of the floor for the remainder of the half, but were unable to close the gap going into the half trailing 38-26. The second half was nearly identical to the first, as Rockford was unable to go on any type of a sustained run to cut into the Benedictine lead and lost by a final of 69-51. The loss eliminates the Regents from playoff contention.
Rockford was led on the court by its seniors. Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist. It was the ninth time this season that Curry recorded a double-double for the Regents. Nicole Olson (Shannon, Ill./Eastland) also played well for the Regents in the loss. Olson scored 15 points with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 block.
