Rockford College celebrates the 165th year of its founding on Feb. 29

Rockford, Ill., – Rockford College will proudly celebrate the 165th year of its founding on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, 4 p.m. at the Charter Day Convocation. The Convocation takes place in Maddox Theatre, Clark Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required. Clark Arts Center is accessible. True to its long-held traditions, the event includes an academic procession of faculty in traditional robes depicting their rank, with stoles representing their respective alma maters and degrees. This year’s Charter Day Convocation address will be given by Rockford College alumnus and member of the Board of Trustees, Sunil Puri, founder and president of First Rockford Group.

Born in Bombay, India, in 1960, Sunil immigrated to the United States in 1979 to attend Rockford College where he graduated in 1982 with a B.S. in Accounting. He pursued further graduate work at Rockford College and The London Business School. He continues to pursue his advanced level education at Harvard Business School each spring. Mr. Puri had the privilege of advising President Clinton and traveling to India with Clinton in 2000 and 2001. In September of 2011 he was appointed by President Obama to the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Following the convocation, the focus will shift from anniversary to birthday celebration in Regents Hall located in the Burpee Center from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The occasion will mark the official start to the College’s 165th year. The festivities will also include groups of alumni joining in via Skype from across Atlanta, Ga., San Francisco, Calif., and Japan.
