ROCKFORD, Ill. – This Tuesday February 7, 2012 will not only be the final home game of the regular season for the women’s basketball team, but it will have additional meaning as well.  When the Rockford College Regents host the Dominican University Stars, the Regents will take part in the Play 4Kay initiative which strives to "raise breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond”. Tip-off time for the game is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center on the campus of Rockford College.

The Play 4Kay initiative, formally know as the WBCA Pink Zone, was rebranded this year in an effort to keep the legacy and story of Coach Kay Yow at the forefront of everything the fund commits itself to.  Coach Yow was instrumental behind the WBCA Pink Zone initiative throughout her life.  Coach Yow, a hall of fame coach at North Carolina State University, lost her battle with breast cancer and passed away in January of 2009.  The movement has continued on after her passing and helped change the lives of many people.  Rockford College is proud and honored to be a part of the Play 4Kay initiative in the fight against breast cancer.

The Rockford College women’s basketball team will be wearing "Think Pink” t-shirts during warm-ups in support of the fight against breast cancer, and will try and help raise money towards cancer research.  The ladies will be holding a raffle featuring around 23 prizes that were graciously donated by businesses in the Rockford community.  In addition, the team has a limited supply of pink bracelets remaining for sale and will have a 50/50 raffle.  All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation.  Fans attending the game are asked to wear pink to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.
