Rockford, Ill., – Jim Kenney, Executive Director of Common Ground, will give the opening 2012 lecture of the Father Robert Verstynen Lecture Series, entitled "Five Reasons for Global Hope,” at Rockford College’s Fisher Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 4p.m.
Jim Kenney is a co-founder and Executive Director of Common Ground, an adult educational organization examining the greatest social thoughts in the human experience. He is the author of "Thriving in the Crosscurrent: Clarity and Hope in a Time of Cultural Sea Change” which, according to Marcus Braybrooke, President of the World Congress of Faiths, shows that "It takes a person with Jim Kenney's wide historical perspective, awareness of contemporary innovative thinking, and prophetic vision, to discern the emerging new values…which treasures the sacredness of all life.” This lecture will explore five strong arguments for a more positive global outlook.
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required. Fisher Chapel is accessible. For more information, contact the Rockford College Box Office at 815-226-4100.
This lecture is made possible through the generosity of Angelo and Virginia Spoto to honor Father Verstynen’s life of service and compassion, and his many years as the Catholic Chaplin at Rockford College. Mr. Spoto, an Emeritus Trustee of the College, was a Co-Trustee of Father Verstynen’s Trust; the Spoto’s generosity continues to support programs originally supported by the Trust, including the Last Lecture Series and programs about Faith and Culture and leading a meaningful life.
This lecture is also part of the college’s Forum Series. To see the Spring 2012 Forum Series line-up visit: http://www.rockford.edu/?page=ForumSeries.
