Curry Nets Another NAC Award

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Senior guard Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) continued her impressive scoring streak last week scoring 52 points in only 2 games for Rockford. Her efforts on the court got her recognized once again by the Northern Athletics Conference. For the second time this season, Curry was named Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 18th, 2011.
The Rockford College women’s basketball team continued playing its brutal stretch of road games this season. So far this season, the Regents have played 8 of their 11 games away from the Seaver Center. Senior guard Britney Curry is proving that she is able to play well in any type of road atmosphere. Last week Curry scored 52 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, recorded 4 steals, and blocked 3 shots. Her best game of the season so far came this past Friday at Ashford University. Curry scored a career high 30 points on 13 of 24 shooting (54.2%), with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. It was the first 30 performance by a women’s basketball player since January 22nd, 2008. The senior was also a force on the defensive side of the floor with 2 blocks and 2 steals against the Saints. Curry currently leads the Northern Athletics Conference in scoring averaging 20.7 points per game and leads the NAC in free throw attempts and free throw makes going 61-85 from the line. She is also tied for 4th in the NAC with 2.3 steals per game, is 5th averaging 8.5 rebounds and 7th blocking 1.5 shots per game.
Britney Curry continues her assault on the Rockford College women’s basketball record books. The senior is currently ranked in 9 different categories. Curry is now the 5th leading scorer in Regents history with 1340 points and only 348 points behind the College’s all-time leading scorer. She is also currently tied for 9th in rebounding with 550 rebounds and 12th all-time with 184 assists. Curry is 3rd in field goals attempted (1242), 6th in field goals made (500), 4th in free throws attempted (481) and 3rd in free throws made (313). On the defensive end of the floor, Curry ranks 5th with 56 blocks and 5th with 199 steals.
Rockford is currently 2-3 in NAC play and tied for 3rd place in the South Division. The Regents women’s basketball team will return to action on Monday January 2nd, 2012 at Elmhurst College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Elmhurst, Ill.
