Regents Tame Cougars Move to 1-0 in NAC

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Regents women’s basketball team started Northern Athletics Conference play 1-0 for the second consecutive year by defeating the Concordia University Chicago Cougars 68-61. The Regents and Cougars played a very close and exciting game for the entire afternoon with the largest lead for either team coming with 3:10 left in the second half when Rockford led by 8. Rockford did an excellent job on the defensive end of the floor holding Concordia Chicago to 29.5% shooting from the floor and 20.7% shooting from beyond the arc. The Regents also forced 19 Cougar turnovers and turned them into 22 points. Rockford has now defeated Concordia University Chicago in 4 consecutive meetings.
Rockford continues to see excellent play out of its starters, especially senior guard Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville). Curry posted her second double-double of the season scoring a game high 21 points and getting 10 rebounds. She has now scored at least 21 points in all 4 games this year for Rockford College. Senior guard Nicole Olson (Shannon, Ill./Eastland) scored a season high 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Olson also made two of Rockford’s three 3-point baskets in the game. Junior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) played a tough game under the basket for the Regents. Lawler scored in double figures for the third game this year with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jessica Bjerning (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) scored in double digits for the second straight game. Bjerning shot 50% from the floor scoring 10 points and getting 7 rebounds.
The women’s basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday November 30th when they travel to Aurora, Illinois to face rival Aurora University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
