Curry Scores First NAC Award

ROCKFORD, Ill. – After the first week of the 2011-12 season, senior Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) looks to be headed towards another outstanding year for the Regents. For the first time in her career, Curry was named Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 20, 2011.
The Regents women’s basketball team opened up its season playing 3 games in just 5 days with 2 of them coming away from the Seaver Center. However, that did not seem to faze Curry as she had a career week on the court. For the week Curry averaged a double-double with 21.7 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. Curry recorded the Regents first double-double of the year on Tuesday scoring 23 points and grabbing 14 rebounds against Judson University. On Friday and Saturday Rockford traveled to Naperville, Ill. to take part in the 2011 North Central College Tip-off Tournament. In those two games she averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. For her stellar performance Curry was named to the 2011 North Central College Tip-off Tournament All-Tournament Team.
Curry currently ranks in the top 4 in the Northern Athletics Conference in a handful of categories. She is 2nd in the NAC in scoring averaging 21.7 points per game and is 4th in rebounding averaging 10.0 rebounds per game. Curry also leads the conference in both free throw attempts and makes going 23-30 this past week. She is tied for the conference lead with 10 steals and is tied for second in the NAC with 6 blocks.
Rockford is currently 1-2 this year and will open the Northern Athletics Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday November 26 against Concordia University Chicago. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Seaver Center in Rockford, Ill.
