NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Rockford College women’s basketball team got its first win of the 2011-12 season on Saturday with a decisive win over the Blackburn College Beavers at the North Central College Tip-Off Tournament.  The Regents were in control for most of the game on Saturday afternoon.  Rockford only trailed for 1 minute and 39 seconds in the entire game.  The game went back and forth in the opening minutes with neither team being able to build much of a lead.  With about 11 minutes remaining before halftime, Rockford went on a 16-4 run to close out the first half and enter halftime with a 15-point lead.  The second half went back and forth and the Regents never lead by less than 13-points and defeated the Beavers 62-41.

The Regents were lead by 4 familiar faces on Saturday.  Senior Britney Curry (Merillville, Ind./Merillville) continues to show why she is one of the best players on the court each and every game she plays in.  Curry scored a game high 21 points against Blackburn.  She also grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.  Curry was named to the North Central College Tip-Off Tournament All-Tournament team for her performance over the weekend.  The senior scored 42 points, got 15 rebounds, and handed out 6 assists in the two games.   Junior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) continued her stellar play this season as well.  Lawler recorded her second straight double-double on the season with 12 points and a game high 10 rebounds including 4 tough offensive rebounds.  Sophomore Jessica Bjerning (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) scored 11 points and got 7 rebounds for the Regents.  Senior Nicole Olsen (Shannon, Ill./Eastland) also scored in double figures with 12 points including making the both of the Regents 3-point baskets in the game.
