Rockford, Ill. — Robert L. Head, Ph.D., president of Rockford College, has recently returned from a trip to China. The trip was sponsored by Sichuan University of Chengdu, China.  As a result of the visit, a new agreement was signed with the university that allows Sichuan University students to complete their last two years of study at Rockford College. Sichuan has three campuses and over 60,000 students.  While in China, Dr. Head spoke at four institutions to a combined total of more than 300 students.  In addition, Dr. Head spoke to a number of technical universities in Chengdu and Liaoning Medical University in Jinzhou, China.

The invitation was issued by the World Academic Cultural Exchange (WACE). On behalf of Sichuan University, speaking for WACE, Mr. Wukang Lee stated, "We were extremely gratified when Dr. Head accepted the invitation.  His background in collegiate leadership made him a natural for the program. We were also aware of Rockford College’s commitment to excellence through its Phi Beta Kappa chapter and the college’s pragmatic and value centered approach to education.”

Dr. Head noted, "The students I saw and interviewed were well prepared and very enthusiastic about the opportunity to attend college here in the heart of America.  Our agreement with Sichuan University will open new doors for both institutions.”  Dr. Head also said that the 165-year legacy of Rockford College and the many distinguished accomplishments of its graduates, including 1931 Nobel laureate Jane Addams, resonated with university representatives and students. "Our strong academic reputation and liberal arts curriculum, combined with a desirable geographic location, make Rockford an ideal option for international students looking to study in the United States.”

President Head will again be traveling abroad in mid-December to Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of Chinga, where he will visit with university leaders and students in Taipei. The College is currently home to students from 12 countries and continues to support its efforts to host students from around the world.
