New scholarship options reward students for high academic achievement

Rockford, Ill., — A new Presidential Scholarship will be available to incoming first-year and transfer students for the coming 2012–2013 academic year. This competitive scholarship seeks to reward students for their high academic achievements and provide additional benefits that increase the overall educational experience for the recipients. It includes a benefit up to full tuition, is available for four years and can be awarded to as many as 10 recipients each year.
The Presidential Scholarship is available to incoming first-year and transfer students with a grade point average of 3.65 or higher and a composite ACT score of 29 or higher. To renew annually, students must maintain a 3.50 GPA or higher, live on campus and participate in at least one campus organization, and participate in several other required activities.
Benefits for students include first choice of on-campus housing in the residence halls, invitations to accompany the president at various civic presidential functions, attending the President’s Leadership Banquet or Retreat, organizing the president’s annual community service project, participating in public speaking opportunities at presidential events such as the Rockford College gala, and opportunities to participate in summer internships and faculty research projects.
Applicants must be admitted to Rockford College by January 24, 2012. The scholarship application deadline is January 31, 2012. Scholarship finalists will complete an on-site interview and essay on February 11, 2012.
Additional opportunities include the Trustee Scholarship and the Dean’s Scholarship with annual awards up to $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.
