ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the second straight season the Regents men’s soccer team received three All-Conference awards. The Regents placed two players on the 2nd Team All-NAC and one player on the Sportsmanship Team. This ties the most number of all-conference honors the team has received in a single season. It is also the first time since Rockford College joined the Northern Athletics Conference in 2006 that the Regents have had players voted onto the 2nd team.
Mick Goulding (Midlothian, Wis./Brenen) received 2nd Team All-NAC Honors. The sophomore was near the top of the conference in numerous statistical categories. Goulding led the conference in saves with 125 and saves per game with 8.50. He also finished the year ranked 8th in Division III in saves per game. Goulding’s save percentage of .744 ranks him 9th in the NAC among goalkeepers who played in at least 10 matches.
Matt Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) was named to both the 2nd Team All-NAC and the All-NAC Sportsmanship Team. The senior captain started all 18 for the Regents this year. He led the team with 4 assists and finished 2nd on the team with 3 goals scored. Nicholson’s 4 assists also tied him for 13th in the NAC. In addition, he also scored the game winning goal against Eureka College on Sept. 10th.
Rockford finished the 2011 season with a 4-14 (0-11 NAC) record. The Regents suffered a handful of close loses again this season. The team fell in five matches by one goal including one match in overtime and one match in double overtime
