ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College football team treated its fans to perhaps its best performance of the season today on Senior Day.  The Regents fell behind early as John Borsellino caught a 21-yard touchdown pass for Benedictine University giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter.  The Regents answered right back as senior quarterback Tyler Baran (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) led his team down the field on a 5 play 52 yard drive and capped it off with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Dane Kirk (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) giving Rockford a 7-6 lead.  Borsellino answered back at the start of the second quarter 32-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles back on top 12-6.  The Regents regained the lead on the very next drive when quarterback Jake Gorsuch (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) connected with Milton Phillips (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) who ran over numerous players on his way into the end zone.  After an interception by Andrew Northrop (Marcellus, Mich./Marcellus), Gorsuch scored on a quarterback draw on 3rd and goal from the 3-yard line.  Borsellino answered with his 3rd touchdown of the half cutting Rockford's lead to 21-19 at halftime.  After 2 Benedictine touchdowns in the second half, Milton Phillips bulldozed his way into the end zone from a yard out for his second score of the afternoon cutting the Benedictine lead to 33-28.  The resilient Regents continued to battle and moved the ball down to the Benedictine 15-yard line late in the 4th quarter.  However, the Eagles came up with a big sack on 4th and 5 with under 5 minutes remaining halting the Regents charge.  Benedictine held onto the ball for the remainder of the game for a 33-28 victory.

Despite the loss Rockford got outstanding performances from numerous players on both sides of the ball.  On the offensive side of the ball, senior quarterback Tyler Baran was 7-10 for 84 yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions on the day.  Running back Milton Phillips came up with big play after big play for the Regents offense.  The freshman caught 5 crucial passes for 64 yards and scored his second rushing touchdown and third receiving touchdown of the season.  Seth Swinehart (Rockford, Ill./East) led the charge for the Regents defense.  The freshman was all over the field setting a season high and leading the team with 14 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.  Senior defensive lineman Luis Ortiz (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) tied his season high with 7 tackles and also forced a fumble.  Junior defensive back Jeremiah Montgomery (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) forced his third fumble and recovered his second fumble of the season by ripping the ball out of the receivers hands after he had caught a pass late in the 4th quarter.  Montgomery also came off of the edge and blocked an extra point early in the second quarter.

Both offensively and defensively Rockford College had its best outings of the season.  The Regents had a season high 202 yards passing, 336 yards of total offense, and scored a scored a season best 28 points on offense.  Defensively, against one of the top offenses in the conference and probably the best player in the Northern Athletics Conference, Rockford forced a season high 4 fumbles, recovered 3 fumbles, and tied a season best forcing 4 turnovers.

The Rockford College Football team will look to close out the 2011 season with a win as it travels to Watertown, Wis. to face the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on November 12th.
