ROCKFORD, Ill. – This Saturday the Rockford College football team will travel to River Forest, Ill. to square off with the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.  The Cougars are 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference which puts them in a 4th place tie in the NAC.  The Regents are still searching for their first win of the 2011 season as they are currently 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the NAC.

In order for the Regents to be successful they will need to try and control the dynamic Concordia Chicago offense.  The Cougars are led by quarterback Jake Koehler.  Despite playing one less game this year, Concordia’s first game of the year was suspended and not completed due to weather, Koehler is still at or near the top of the NAC in nearly every passing category.  He leads the conference in passing yards per game, touchdowns and is third in total passing yards.  His favorite target Jamal Thomas has 312 yards receiving and leads the NAC with 6 receiving touchdowns.  The Regents will look to veteran group of defensive backs including juniors Jeremiah Montgomery (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) and  Andrew Hildebrand (Belvidere, Ill./North) to try and keep Thomas in check.  Rockford will also look to continue to generate pressure up front.  The Regents will lean on the line backing trio of Seth Swinehart (Rockford, Ill./East), Will Brannock (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth) and Antonio Richardson (Chicago, Ill./Rich South) to get pressure on the quarterback and try to force him into making mistakes.  Koehler has shown he will throw into coverage and make mistakes as he is second in the NAC with 8 interceptions.

The Regents will look to get wide receiver Anastacio Zamba (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) involved early and often in the game.  Zamba leads the conference with 29 receptions, ranks second with 415 yards receiving and is third in the NAC averaging 83.0 receiving yards per game.  Rockford will also look to feed its three-headed rushing attack of Isaiah Whack (Deltona, Fla./Deltona), Tyler Reed (Riverdale, Ga./Riverdale) and Kyle Burns (Decatur, Ill./Mt. Zion) to try and chew up yards on the ground and pick up first downs for the offense.  This will take pressure off of quarterback Jake Gorsuch (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) and hopefully allow him time to find Zamba downfield for the big play.
