MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the third time this year the Rockford College men’s soccer team suffered a heart breaking loss. The Regents lost 2-1 in double overtime to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors in Milwaukee, Wis. Rockford struck first scoring a goal only 17 minutes into the match giving the Regents a 1-0 lead. However in the 64th minute of the match, the Warriors scored the equalizer and would send the match into overtime. Neither team was able to score a goal in the first ten minute overtime period, thus forcing a second overtime. With less than 30 seconds left in the final overtime period the Warriors were able to sneak the game-winning goal into net winning the match 2-1. This was the second time this season that the men’s soccer team suffered an overtime loss, and the third one-goal loss of the year.
Despite the tough loss, the Regents got solid performances out of many players. Sophomore goalkeeper Mick Goulding (Midlothian, Wis./Brenen) had another superb game in goal. Goulding made 12 saves in the match on the 14 shots-on-goal for the Warriors. Currently he ranks 6th in all of Division III with 8.88 saves per match. Junior Sam Medina-Conchi (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald W. Regan) helped out his goalkeeping by scoring the first goal of the match for Rockford College. The goal was Medina Conchi’s second goal of the season and Rockford’s first goal since September 17th. He was assisted on the goal by freshman Tyler Burg (Cherry Valley, Ill./Jefferson). The assist was the Burg’s first of his collegiate career.
Rockford’s next match is this Saturday, October 8th, against Marian University. The match will be played out at the SportsCore Complex in Loves Park, Ill. with a scheduled start time of 7:30 p.m. or approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s soccer match.
