BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford College Men’s Cross Country team headed up north to Beloit College to run in the 48th annual  Olde English Invitational on October 1st. Fortunately for the Running Regents, that would not be the only 1st of the day.

The men won the meet overall competing against four other schools. The course was difficult, testing each of the runners as they were forced to run through rivers, creeks, and over hay bales. However, it did not phase senior Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Benton Harbor) as he led the way for the Running Regents winning the 8k race with a time of 27:44. The time posted by Reyes was the fastest any Rockford College runner has run on that particular 8k course.

The young talent on the men’s team was one of the deciding factors in the team’s victory on Saturday. Freshmen Tim Lydy (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) placed 4th with a time of 28:28, and Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) finished 5th with a time of 28:32. Senior Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown) recorded a time of 28:41 earning him 6th place, and sophomore Amour Muro (Rockford, Ill./Waterford Kamhlaba) finished 25th overall rounding out the team score for Rockford College.

Other notables finishers were sophomore Eric Woelbing (Florissant, Mo./McCleur North) finishing 27th, sophomore Tim Caudle (Lillington, N.C./Overhills) finishing 32nd, freshman Matt Allison (Apple Valley, Calif./Lucerne Valley) finishing 39th, and freshman Ryan Mehren (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) finishing 41st.

The men will return to competition when they head up to UW-Oshkosh for the Brooks Invitational.  The meet takes place on October 15th on the NCAA National Championship course.
