ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College volleyball team continues to build momentum as it won its second straight Northern Athletics Conference match in a row on back-to-back nights. The Regents defeated Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night and then Alverno College on Saturday evening. Rockford got off to a fast start taking the first two sets of the match. However, Alverno regrouped and took the third set making the score 2-1 heading into the 4th set. The Regents came out on fire taking the set 25-14 and winning the match 3-1. The win improves Rockford's record to 3-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference and moves the Regents into a 3rd place tie.
Rockford got stellar performances out of numerous players for the second consecutive night. Senior Courtney Pehl (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) again did a great job setting up and getting her teammates involved. Pehl followed up her 52 assist performance on Friday with 32 assists on Saturday. She also recorded 2 kills, 4 aces and 5 digs. Freshman Liana Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) had a match high 13 kills and 12 digs. Junior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) continued her hot play with 11 kills on only 21 attack attempts, 7 digs and 4 aces. Lawler also had an excellent night serving recording 4 aces.
Rockford College will be back in action on Tuesday, October 4th, at 7:00 p.m. The Regents will welcome the Edgewood College Eagles to the Seaver Center for another Northern Athletics Conference showdown.
