Regents Ground Falcons in 5 Sets

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College volleyball team won a hard fought match over the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons to kickoff homecoming weekend for the Regents. The Regents jumped out to an early 2-sets to none lead in the match, but the Falcons battled back to force a 5th and deciding set. In the 5th set, Rockford College was able to stop the Concordia Wisconsin rally and win the set 15-10, giving the Regents a 3-2 win. The win improves Rockford’s record to 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference and moves them up in the conference standings.
Rockford College received solid outings from a handful of its players in Friday night’s match. Senior Courtney Pehl (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) came close to setting a record in the win. Pehl recorded 52 assists in the match, only 6 assists short of the single game record of 58 set back in 2004. She also recorded 17 digs in the match to round out her evening. Senior Heather Goodrich (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew), junior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City), sophomore Heather Hyland (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) and freshman Liana Scheri (Cortland, Ill./Dekalb) all recorded double-digit kills in the match. Scheri had a match-high 18 kills and also recorded 13 digs and 2 blocks. Lawler recorded 16 kills, 13 digs, and 3 block assists. Goodrich had 13 kills on 37 attack attempts with only 3 attack errors for the match. Hyland had a very good all around match for the Regents. She had 10 kills, a match-high 3 service aces and a match-high 21 digs.
The Regents volleyball team will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday October 1st, when they welcome the Alverno College Inferno to the Seaver Center on the campus of Rockford College. The match is set to begin at 6 PM.
