ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the second consecutive week Rockford College Sophomore Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) was recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference for her performance over the weekend. On Monday, Cerrato was named NAC Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 25, 2011. Cerrato becomes the first Rockford College Women’s Cross Country runner to ever win the award multiple weeks in a row.
Cerrato continues to sprint out ahead of her competition at each meet this season. This past weekend she ran at the Lake Forest College Forester Invitational which is a meet that includes both Division I and Division III student-athletes. Overall Cerrato finished 14th out of 133 runners, but her time of 19:57.0 made her the top finisher among Division III runners. In addition, she not only set a personal best in a 5K race, but she also broke the Rockford College school record at Lake Forest College. Cerrato broke the previous best time set in 2007 in the Forester Invitational by over 90 seconds.
Currently Cerrato’s times in each of the different length races are near the top of the Northern Athletics Conference. In the 6k, her time of 24:12.9 is third best in the conference. Cerrato holds the second best time in the conference in the 5K this year with her finish last Saturday. Finally, her time in the 4K of 16:41.0 is also second best in the Northern Athletics Conference this year.
The Regents Women’s Cross Country team will return to action on Saturday October 15th at the Brooks Invitational in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The race is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
