ROCKFORD, Ill. - For the second straight week the lady Regents competed against strong Division I competition at the Lake Forest College Forester Invitational. Sophomore Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) led the women in a race full of hills and heavy rooted terrain finishing 14th overall and 1st among Division III student-athletes. For the consecutive week, Genesis was the fastest Northern Athletic Conference runner in the race.
Cerrato’s time on the course was good enough to set yet another personal best and school record for the Running Regents. The previous best time for a Rockford College Women’s Cross Country runner at Lake Forest College was 21:35. Cerrato destroyed that record by over a minute and a half with a time of 19:57.
Sophomore Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown), Freshman Christina Fomina (Rockford Ill./Christian Life), and Sophomore Taylor Inghram (Las Vegas Nev./Arbor View) all ran season best times as well in a highly competitive field comprising of over 130 runners.
"These ladies are going through their toughest training cycle of the year, and for them to run this well is amazing. They ran smart, competed, and outkicked other competitors out there. It was a very fun and rewarding race to watch” Head Coach Chad Zeman said after the race.
The Women’s Cross Country Team’s next meet is on Saturday October 12th at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM.
