Beres Receives Back-to-Back NAC Honors

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College Senior Anthony Beres (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Hoffman Estates) was recognized for the second straight week by the Northern Athletics Conference for his stellar performance on the football field. On Monday, Beres was named NAC Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 18, 2011. Beres is the first Rockford College football player to ever win the award in consecutive weeks, and he is also the first to win it multiple times.
The Rockford College football team had its home opener this past weekend and got off to a fast start thanks to Beres. The offense drove the ball down the field on its opening possession where Beres kicked a career long 37 yard field. He continued his perfect kicking performance for the day making both of his extra points and the one field goal. For the season he is a perfect 7-7 on extra points and 3-3 on field goals. Beres also helped flip field position numerous times with his punting. On 5 punts he averaged 38.0 yards per punt with a long of 54 yards. He also pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line twice during the game.
Currently Beres ranks at or near the top of the Northern Athletics Conference in multiple statistical categories. He leads the conference in field goals made with 3, punts inside the 20-yard line with 7, and in points scored in the kicking game with 16. Beres is also third in the NAC with a 37.9 yard average per punt and is tied for third with 7 extra points made.
The Regents will return to action on October 1st for homecoming after a bye week this Saturday. Rockford will welcome the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons to Sam Greeley Field with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
