ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Running Regents competed at the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Invite this past weekend. This was a meet that included Division 1 schools as well as Division 3 schools. It was Rockford College’s first attempt at the collegiate level distances this year, and it did not faze any of the student-athletes.
Sophomore Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) started off the day strong for the Regents. She cruised to a time of 24:12 which placed her 9th overall out of 138 student-athletes, and 3rd among Division III student-athletes. Cerrato was also finished 1st amongst runners from the Northern Athletics Conference. Sophomore Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown) finished 65th, Freshman Lindsay Maas (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) finished 79th, and Freshman Christina Fomina (Rockford, Ill./Christian Life) finished 93rd to round out the very young Regents women’s team.
Senior Victor Reyes (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Benton Harbor) started off his senior year with a very successful outing. He finished with a time of 26:56 which was good enough for a 13th place overall out of 132 runners and 7th place among Division III runners. Reyes ran nearly a minute faster this year than he did at the Falcon Invitational last year. Senior Tyler Mendenhall (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown) mentored freshmen Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) and Tim Lydy (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) through their first 8k race. It proved successful as Rapp finshed with a time of 27:57 while Mendenhall recorded a time of 27:59, and Lydy finished with a time of 28:23.
The men’s team was rounded out by Sophomore Tim Caudle (Lillington, N.C./Overhills) who finished 87th, Sophomore Amour Muro (Rockford, Ill./Waterford Kamhlaba) finished 94th, Sophomore Eric Woelbling (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished 101st, Freshman Ryan Mehren (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) finished 124th, and Senior Bobby Tassone (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) finished 128th.
