Women's Soccer off to a fast 2-0 Start

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Regents Women’s Soccer team is off to one of its best starts in recent years. This past weekend the Regents traveled up to Mt. Mary College in Milwaukee Wis. to take part in their tournament and returned home with a pair of victories. Rockford opened up its season on Saturday September 3rd against Robert Morris-Lake County with a 6-0 win. The Freshman duo of Alexa Torman (Marengo, Ill./ Marengo) and Callie Schmidt (Rockford, Ill./ Jefferson) combined to score all six goals. Torman scored on all 3 shots she took and Schmidt only needed 7 shots to score her 3 goals. Rockford not only got great offensive play, they also had an excellent game on defense as well. The Regents held Robert Morris to just 2 shots on goal for the entire match.
Rockford followed up its win on Saturday with another impressive win on Sunday against the Finlandia University Lions. The Regents controlled the game from its very onset and went on to an 8-0 victory. Alexa Torman stole show once again scoring 5 goals against the Lions on just 6 shots. That totals an amazing 8 goals over the weekend for Torman. Christine Hermann (Tinley Park, Ill./ Tinley Park) also got involved scoring 2 second half goals and assisting on another. The other goal was scored by freshman Callie Schmidt giving her 4 goals for the weekend. All 14 goals in the 2 games for Rockford were scored by freshman. The defense continued to hold its own once again as it surrendered only 1 shot on goal for the match.
The Regents currently have the 2nd leading goal scorer (Torman, 8) and 5th leading goal scorer (Schmidt, 4) in the Northern Athletics Conference.
The Women’s Soccer Team will be back in action on Sunday against the Red Devils of Eureka College at 1 PM at Sam Greeley Field.
