ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College Freshman Philip Pressgrove (Peachtree City, Ga./ Starrs Mill) was recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference for his outstanding performance on the soccer field this past week. On Tuesday, Pressgrove was named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 3, 2011. Pressgrove becomes the first ever men’s soccer player at Rockford College to earn this award.
The Regents won their opening soccer match 3-2 against St. Mary’s University in large part because of Pressgrove’s performance. This marked the first time since 2001 that a Rockford College Men’s Soccer team won their opening match since 2001. Pressgrove scored 2 of the 3 goals, including the first goal of the 2011 season for the Regents, and assisted on the other goal scored by the Rockford.
Pressgrove continued his hot streak the following day against Lake Forest College. He scored the lone goal for the Regents off of a penalty early in the second half. So far this year Pressgrove has been involved on all 4 goals scored.
Currently Pressgrove ranks 2nd in the Northern Athletics Conference in goals scored with 3 and 2nd in points with 7. He also ranks tied for 5th in the NAC in assists. On the season Pressgrove leads the Regents in goals scored (3), points (7), shots (6), shots on goal (5) and is tied for the team lead in assists (1).
The Regents will return to the field on Saturday, September 10 when they host the Red Devils of Eureka College at 3:00 PM at Sam Greeley Field as the second half of the men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader.
