ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College Freshman Alexa Torman (Marengo, Ill./ Marengo) became the first ever women’s soccer player to be recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference as a weekly award recipient. On Tuesday, Torman was named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 3, 2011.
The Regents got off to a fast start to begin the 2011 season much in part because of the outstanding performances by Torman. Against Robert Morris-Lake County, Torman scored 3 of the team’s 6 goals including the first goal of the season for the Regents. In addition to scoring 3 goals she also assisted on another goal.
Torman continued her red hot play against Finlandia University the following day. She torched the nets scoring 5 goals helping the Regents to an 8-0 win over the Lions of Finlandia. Torman again scored the opening goal of the match and the Regents never looked back propelling them to a 2-0 start to the 2011 season.
Currently Torman ranks 2nd in the Northern Athletics Conference in goals scored with 8 and 2nd in points with 17. Her 8 goals scored are already 3 more goals scored than the Regents leading scorer from last season.
The Regents will return to the field on Saturday, September 10 when they host the Red Devils of Eureka College at 1:00 PM at Sam Greeley Field as part of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader.
