ROCKFORD, Ill. –  With just days to spare before student-athletes return to campus for summer camp, Rockford College’s first year Head Football Coach Vic Wallace has his coaching staff intact.

"Being a first year coach, I wanted to make sure I had the right people to help our student-athletes be successful both on the field and in the classroom,” said Coach Wallace.  "In order for our program to get back to where we want it, it is important that we have the right combination of dedicated coaches student-athletes.”

Jay Emmons joins the staff as Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach.  Emmons and Wallace have a history, as Emmons played for Wallace at Lambuth University. Upon graduating, Emmons began his coaching career as Wide receiver’s coach on Wallace’s staff.

Last year’s interim head coach Patrick Babcock and offensive coordinator Ryan Mills have been retained and will act as running game and passing game coordinators, respectively.

Former Wisconsin Badger defensive lineman Jason Jefferson joins the Regents staff as part of the National Football League Players Association Coaching Internship Program.  Jefferson received All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a senior before being drafted in the 6th Round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.  He also played for the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons.  Jefferson will coach the Defensive Line.

Steve Wahlstrom comes to Rockford College after over 30 years in the Rockford football scene.  The Regents’ running backs coach was on the Rockford East High School staff in 2010 after five seasons at Rock Valley College.  Prior to his time at RVC and five years at Christian Life High School, Wahlstrom spent 23 years at Rockford Jefferson High School.

Oceanside, California native Chris Bonta will coach the Wide Receivers.  Bonta most recently coach quarterbacks, linebackers, and special teams at San Marcos High School in San Marcos, Cal.  During his stint at SMHS, Bonta was part of the coaching staff led by 2009 College Football Hall of Fame Inductee John Robinson.

Rounding out the staff is Jason Ware who will coach the linebackers.  Ware played at Lambuth under Coaches Wallace and Emmons and was a two-time first team all-conference player.
"I believe that we have a great group of coaches to work with our young men,” said Wallace.  "We are anxious to get our student-athletes on campus and to start working with them.  We look forward to rebuilding Rockford College’s tradition of football success.”

Coach Wallace came to Rockford in January 2011 to take over a team that has won just four games in the past three years, including finishing the 2010 campaign 0-10.  The Regents will open their season on September 3 at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.  Their home-opener will be on September 17, when they welcome the Alma College Scots to Sam Greeley Field for a 1:00 p.m. game.
