Two Faculty Members Recognized with Teaching in Excellence Awards

Rockford, Ill. – Two faculty members at Rockford College have been honored with the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is presented annually to a full-time professor and adjunct professor.
Jeffrey Fahrenwald, associate professor of economics, business, and accounting and director of the masters in business program received the award for the full-time professor. He has been at the college since 1988 and teaches in the areas of human relations, management, leadership and international studies in the MBA program.
The adjunct award went to Sherry Zenk, Rockford College Learning Center instructor. She has been teaching and tutoring at the college for 15 years and teaches courses for students who require additional instruction in reading and math. She also created and administers the Iowa Basic Skills workshop to assist teachers who are preparing to take the exam and earn state certification.
Nominations for the awards come from throughout the college and winners are chosen by an ad hoc selection committee. The criteria for both awards are knowledge of his/her discipline, respect for students, creative course development, advising, and campus leadership.
