Graduate Assistant - Cross Country and Track & Field

Education Requirement:


Must be admitted into the MBA/MAT program

  1. To foster, mold, guide, lead and direct student-athletes towards a quality educational experience in order to obtain the ultimate goal of a degree.
  2. Help develop a successful collegiate Cross-Country and Track & Field program and coaching philosophy through recruiting, off-season programs, practice planning and racing strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruiting phone calls, off-campus visits and setting up on-campus visits
  • High school and home visits, both in and out of state
  • Setting up practice
  • Individual student-athlete meetings
  • Weekly student-athlete study table sessions
  • Setting up tutors for student athletes.
  • Classroom attendance checks
  • Strength and conditioning supervision.
  • End of season summary books
  • Fundraising campaigns
  • Meet and practice management
  • Working in any weather condition
  • Mowing
  • Program development of workouts, weekly mileage, strategies
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be willing to take initiative and work hard.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must be admitted into either the MAT or MBA program
  • Collegiate Cross Country and/or Track & Field experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of strength and conditioning

Physical Demands

The job itself requires employees to be continuously moving throughout the year.  Employees must be able to walk, run, job and bike over varied terrain during spring, fall, winter and summer months. The employee is frequently required to pick up various objects and run, stand or kneel at various times.  Whiel performing this job, employees are required to continually stay in shape.  During cross-country competitions, the employee will be required to run to various mile markers while continuously yelling/ cheering at our student athletes.  At track and field competitions, the employee will be required to move around to various events our student athletes are competing in.

Work Environment

Employees will be required to not only work out in the field of practice and competition, but in a professional work place that is highly visible to the college community.  Proper hygiene and professional clothing are requried.  Office work can either be indoors or outdoors.
