Rockford, Ill. –On Sunday, May 1, the Rockford College student group, Regents Athletics Getting Excited (RAGE), will be hosting its fourth annual Regents 5K on the campus of Rockford College.  In addition to the 5K run, there will also be a One-Mile Fun Walk this year. Registration is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. outside of the Seaver Center for Physical Education and Recreation.  Pre-registration is not required for the run which is scheduled to begin at 10:00.  Registration fee for the race is $5 for the general public and $3 for Rockford College students, faculty, and staff.  All proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics.

"The Regents 5K is a great event not just for Rockford College students, but the entire Rockford community,” said interim Athletic Director Kristyn King.  "It gives our students an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills while helping such a great cause in the Special Olympics.”

Participants are not required to run the course, instead, they can walk, jog, or skip through the 3.1 mile course, while runs through Rockford’s 130 acre campus.  Awards will be provided for top finishers in several classes for the 5K run.

"We have had great turnout and support through the first three years of the event and are looking forward to another great event,” said RAGE president and Rockford College Senior Heather Goodrich.  "Special Olympics is such a great organization and has a long history of involvement with Rockford College.”
