MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Rockford College baseball team extended their current win streak to five with 15-0 and 12-7 road wins over the MSOE Raiders on Monday. The victories improved the Regents to 14-10 overall and 10-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Rockford used a powerful offense and dominant pitching en route to the win in the day’s opening win. The Regents pounded 16 hits in the game, at least one by each of the game’s starting field players. Junior first baseman Ryan Lesner (Algonquin, Ill./ Elgin CC) and senior catcher Jordan Shaver (Davis Junction, Ill./ Rock Valley CC) paced the Regents with three hits each. Lesner and senior outfielder Curt Daughenbaugh (Dakota, Ill./ Dakota) each knocked in three runs, while junior shortstop Jimmy Dercks (Kaukauna, Wis./ Kaukauna) and junior designated hitter Chris Thomas (Hanover Park, Ill./ Elgin CC) crossed home plate three times each.
Freshman Kaleb Rich (Washington, Iowa/ Washington) recorded his second win of the year, a complete game outing allowing just three hits. Rich was perfect through 4.1 innings and allowed just one MSOE runner to reach second base.
Rockford’s offense continued to flow in the day’s second game, as Rockford recorded 12 runs on 15 hits. Junior third baseman Jake Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./ Rock Valley CC) led off the game with a triple and finished the game with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBI’s. Junior second baseman Kevin Miller (Elk Grove Village, Ill./ College of Lake County) and Shaver also recorded three hits. Junior outfielder Kipton Bucey (Byron, Ill./ Stillman Valley) recorded a career high four RBI’s.
Seniors Ben Riffle (Brooklyn, Wis./ Brooklyn) and Will Kuchelmeister (Kaukauna, Wis./ Kaukauna) combined for the win and save. Riffle improved to 2-0 after allowing five earned runs on nine hits through 5.2 innings. Kuchelmeister completed the job recording his first save of the season, allowing one earned run over the game’s final 3.1 innings.
Rockford is scheduled to host the NAC’s first tripleheader on Tuesday as Aurora University visits Road Ranger Stadium for a doubleheader, followed by a single make-up game against Maranatha Baptist Bible College.
