ROCKFORD, Ill. – On Tuesday, Rockford College junior pitcher Eryn Dougherty (Ottawa, Ill./ Illinois Valley CC) did something no other Regents pitcher has done. Dougherty became the first Rockford College softball pitcher to be named Northern Athletics Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. Whitni Genz is the only other Regent to be honored as Student-Athlete of the Week in the five year history of the NAC on March 19, 2007.
The junior physical education major went 3-0 last week. In her 17 innings pitched, the right-handed hurler allowed just 12 hits and two earned runs, while striking out 12 batters against just three walk.
On the season, Dougherty is 4-6 with a 6.39 earned run average, but she is listed among the best in the NAC through eight conference games. In NAC competition, Dougherty ranks #9 in innings pitched with 28.1. She also ranks #10 in strikeouts with 22, including 11 strikeouts looking and #12 with 5.44 strikeouts per game.
Dougherty and the Regents will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. on Wednesday to face the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. The ladies will return to the Smith Athletic Field on Sunday with a visit from the MSOE Raiders. The NAC doubleheader will begin at 12 Noon.
