ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College men’s basketball player Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) may have exhausted his playing time, but the senior continues to score honors for this game. Malone was recently named to the D3Hoops.com Men’s Basketball All-Midwest Region Second Team.
"This award is a great honor for Robert, our program, and our institution," said Rockford College Men's Basketball Coach Ryan Rebsom. "Robert was a huge part of helping to turn our program around. This honor is a testament to his hard work and leadership on and off the court."
Malone, a physical education major, was the offensive force for the Regents, averaging 25 points per game, the fourth best average in the country. The All-Northern Athletics Conference 1st Team performer was named the NAC Student-Athlete of the Week twice and was named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week twice this season. Malone became the 21st player in the history of the Regents men’s basketball program to reach the 1,000 career point plateau during a season in which Malone recorded at least 30 points six times and played all 40 minutes 10 times. Malone finished his senior season among the NAC’s leaders in points (#1) and minutes (#1-37.0), rebounds (#4-9.6), steals (#3-2.9), and blocks (#5-1.0).
Malone was among nearly 400 players nominated by sports information directors at 229 Division III schools around the country. Also joining Malone from the Northern Athletics Conference is Austin Meier from MSOE.
