Pulitzer Prize Winning journalist and ‘Half the Sky’ author Sheryl WuDunn to Speak at RC

Rockford, Ill. – (03-03-11) Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Sheryl WuDunn, coauthor of "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide” will speak at Rockford College’s Maddox Theatre, Clark Arts Center, on Tuesday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. WuDunn’s presentation is free and open to the public. Tickets are required. Clark Arts Center is accessible.
"Half the Sky” is a New York Times best-selling book that has earned international acclaim across segments in academia, entertainment, journalism and government. Written by WuDunn and her husband Nicholas Kristof, the book addresses challenges facing women around the world on such topics as lack of education, sex trafficking and violence. WuDunn has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Colbert Report, and many other network television shows. WuDunn also helped launch the Half the Sky multimedia effort to create a thoughtful, effective philanthropic strategy that includes an online social action campaign, a documentary series, and a television special.
WuDunn, the first Asian American reporter to win a Pulitzer Prize, has also co-authored two other best-selling books about Asia: Thunder from the East and China Wakes. She is a business executive and lecturer and former executive at The New York Times. WuDunn is currently a senior managing director at Mid-Market Securities, an investment banking boutique serving growth companies in the middle market, including companies founded and run by women. WuDunn graduated from Cornell University, and has master’s degrees from Harvard Business School and Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.
