Malone Eclipses 1,000 Point Mark

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Over his nearly two seasons in a Regents uniform, senior forward Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) has made 393 field goals but one specific three pointer in Saturday’s 77-67 win at Wisconsin Lutheran College may be remembered a little more than the others.
Leading 38-36, exactly one minute into the second half, Malone connected on a three pointer from fellow senior Taylor Stinson (Schiller Park, Ill./ East Leyden). This special basket extended Malone’s career scoring mark to 1,002 points, making him the 21st Regents player to surpass the 1,000 point plateau. With 30 points on Saturday, Malone currently ranks tied with Maurice Smith for 19th on Rockford’s all-time scoring list with 1,021 points.
The physical education major has been the offensive catalyst for the Regent’s offense, leading Rockford in scoring in 29 of his 45 career games. He currently leads the Northern Athletics Conference with 24.6 points per game, with is sixth in the nation in scoring. The senior also ranks among the NAC’s best in rebounding (#4 – 9.6 rebounds per game), steals (#2 – 2.9 steals per game), blocked shots (#5 – 1.0) and minutes played (#1 – 36.9 minutes per game).
Malone was named to the 2009-10 All-Northern Athletics Conference Second Team. He was also honored as NAC Student-Athlete of the Week four times and named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week twice during the 2010-11 season.
Malone will lead the Regents into the Northern Athletics Conference tournament this week, as the Regents travel to Lisle, Ill. to face the Benedictine University Eagles.
