ROCKFORD, Ill. – With the Rockford College women’s and men’s basketball regular seasons coming to an end both teams are making preparations for both the Northern Athletics Conference Challenge Games tomorrow and the opening round of their respective NAC tournaments, set to begin next week.

Having won six of their last seven games, the ladies (12-12, 10-7) will close their regular season with a trip to Madison, Wisconsin to face the Edgewood College Eagles (14-10, 12-6 NAC).  Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.

The Regents fell to the Eagles 73-68 in an overtime thriller on January 15.  In that game, Rockford senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) recorded the school’s fifth game of at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.  She led four Regents in double-figure scoring with 22 points and 20 rebounds.  Rockford led Edgewood for the majority of the game but a 13-6 Eagle run late in the second half put the Regents down seven points with four minutes to play. A lay-up by senior Melissa Swaziek (Loves Park, Ill./ Harlem) tied the game at 58, sending the game to overtime.  Since that loss, the Regents have gone 6-3.

The ladies will travel to Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon on Tuesday to face the Falcons in the first round of the NAC tournament.

The men (9-14, 6-10 NAC) find themselves in a less than ideal situation heading into their season finale.  The Regents know they will close their regular season on the road, but the destination is yet to be determined.  Rockford must wait until the conclusion of last night’s Wisconsin Lutheran/ Maranatha contest to learn their opponent.  The Regents will face the winner of that game at 4:15 tomorrow afternoon.  Rockford dropped their only meeting against Wisconsin Lutheran 73-70 on December 11 and defeated Maranatha 90-81 on January 29.

The men also find themselves in a difficult situation for the NAC postseason tournament.  Though they have already qualified for their spot in the tourney, their first round fate will depend on the result of other games.  It is known that Rockford will face either Concordia University Wisconsin or Benedictine University on Wednesday night on the road.
