Regents Clinch Tourney Berth with Win

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford College women’s basketball team clinched a berth in the Northern Athletics Conference post-season tournament with Saturday’s 60-57 come-from-behind win over the visiting Benedictine University Eagles. The victory was Rockford’s fourth consecutive home win and improved the Regents record to 11-12 overall and 9-7 in the NAC.
Benedictine jumped out to a commanding lead, scoring the game’s first seven points, establishing a game-high 10 point lead just over seven minutes into the game. The Regents however, managed to keep the game close. They managed to keep the game within reach, cutting the Eagles’ advantage to just one point with just over three minutes to play before the break. By the break, the Regents were in striking distance, trailing by a score of 30-26 at halftime.
Early in the second half, it looked as though the Eagles would continue their advantage, leading 38-29 at the 14:33 mark. Seconds later junior Nicole Olson (Shannon, Ill./ Eastland) connected on a three-pointer that changed the game’s momentum. Over the next 12 plus minutes, the Regents outscored the Eagles 22-7, taking a 51-45 lead with just 70 seconds remaining in the game. Rockford sealed the win connecting on 9-10 free throws in the game’s final seconds.
Junior Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) moved to number seven on Rockford’s all-time scoring list with 16 points. Curry added 13 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Olson finished with 13 points, including 3-6 from three-point range. Senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) notched her 14th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Regents will host their final scheduled home game on Wednesday, when they welcome the MSOE Raiders to the Seaver Center.
