Rockford, Ill. – John C. Ashton, an independent scholar, discusses a Viking-age game discovery in a free talk at Rockford College’s Fisher Chapel on Tuesday, February 15 at 4 p.m. Ashton discusses his new translation of Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus' 1732 Lapland botanical expedition journal. The translation resulted in contributions to Viking age archeology through its description of a board game called Tablut, related to the Viking game of Hnefatafl.
The talk is sponsored by the Rockford College Eta of Illinois Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and is part of the Spring 2011 Forum Series.
