ROCKFORD, Ill. – Student-Athlete. To many, the second word is more recognizable and important than the first, especially in the world of collegiate athletics. But for one Rockford College senior, balance allows her to excel at both. On Thursday, Regents senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) was named to the Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Second Team.
Lawler, a senior physical education major with a 3.95 grade point average, has been a dominant force for the Regents. She is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game. She also leads the Regents with 10.8 rebounds per game. Both statistics rank among the top 10 in the Northern Athletics Conference. The 2010 All-NAC performer currently ranks number two in the country in field goal percentage at 62.6% from the floor.
"Megan has had an immeasurable impact on our program over the last two years,” said third-year Regents head coach Jessica Stanek. "She has been a leader for our team both on the court and in the classroom. She is the true definition a student-athlete.”
The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.
