Jennifer Braun of International Midwife Assistance will speak at Rockford College as part of the "Half the Sky” Initiative

Rockford, Ill. – Jennifer Braun, of International Midwife Assistance (IMA) will speak at Rockford College’s Burpee Center in Regent’s Hall on February 7, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. IMA, based out of Boulder, Colorado, and is a non-profit, secular, non-political, humanitarian organization operating in Uganda, Afghanistan, and Haiti.  Their mission is to raise the standard of healthcare in developing nations experiencing crises.  IMA accomplishes this by placing and training midwives and other healthcare professionals in hospitals, clinics and homes and delivering medical supplies, medication and teaching aids.

Braun’s talk is part of the "Half the Sky" Initiative, a year-long program sponsored by Rockford College with the help of local civic leaders Jim and Pam Keeling. It is aimed at improving conditions in underdeveloped countries. The project is based on the New York Times best-selling book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. On March 15, 2011, WuDunn will lecture at Rockford College as part of the College’s Forum Series.
