Malone Scores 2nd National Honor

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The recent play of Rockford College men’s basketball player Robert Malone (Stephens, Ark./ Stephens) was not only recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference but it has also gained national attention. For the second time this season, Malone was named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week.
Malone led the Regents with 31.5 points and 11 rebounds while playing 39 minutes per game. The physical education major recorded career highs of 40 points and 16 rebounds in a 75-73 win over Concordia University Chicago. His final rebound and point helped seal the Regents’ win. He followed that with a 23 point effort against Concordia University Wisconsin.
For the season, Malone ranks number 10 in the nation in scoring with 23.5 points per game. He also ranks among the top 5 in the Northern Athletics Conference in rebounding (9.1), steal (2.5), blocks (0.9), and minutes (36.1).
The Regents (7-10, 4-6 NAC) will travel to Aurora University to face the Spartans tonight at 7:00 p.m. They will return to the Seaver Center on Saturday when they host the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders as part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader. The ladies will tip at 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 4:15 p.m.
