ROCKFORD, Ill. - After three consecutive loses, the Rockford College women’s basketball team returned to the Seaver Center and found their winning touch with a 63-50 win over Concordia University Chicago.  The win improved the Regents’ record to 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the Northern Athletics Conference.

The Regents used a dominant post presence for the wire-to-wire win.  Rockford opened the game scoring 12 of the game’s first 14 points, to establish a 10 point lead just six minutes into the game.  The lead hovered between six and ten points throughout the first half but a CUC 9-0 run late in the half cut Rockford’s lead to one point.  But the Regents responded with a 7-0 run of their own to end the half, en route to a 38-30 Rockford advantage at the break.

Rockford’s offense continued its efficiency coming out of the halftime break as the Regents extended their lead to a game-high 19 points midway through the second stanza.

Rockford’s offense was led by sophomore Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) who recorded a career-high 18 points and grabbed five rebounds.  Senior Megan Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./ Pearl City) recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 14 points on 5-5 shooting and notched 10 boards.  Junior Britney Curry (Merrillville, Ind./ Merrillville) added 13 points and five rebounds in the Regents’ win.

Defensively, Rockford held the Cougars to 31.1% shooting for the game, including 5-19 from beyond the three-point arc.  The Regents also enjoyed an astounding 48-24 advantage on the glass, allowing Concordia Chicago just five second chance points.

The Regents will remain on their home court on Saturday when they welcome the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders to the Seaver Center as part of a women’s and men’s NAC doubleheader.  The ladies will open the action at 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 4:15 p.m.
